International Red Cross Aid Worker
Work Overseas with the Canadian Red Cross and help the world's most vulnerable people
The Canadian Red Cross mission is to "improve the lives of vulnerable people by mobilizing the power of humanity in Canada and around the world."
The Canadian Red Cross sends various types of aid workers overseas to assist communities in areas affected by conflict or disaster. Profiles of our aid workers include medical doctors of all specialties, nurses, midwives, logisticians including medical, water and sanitation specialists, electricians, carpenters, IT/Telecom, laboratory technicians and social workers among others. Overseas assignments can range from one month to twelve months.
The Canadian Red Cross is in the process of recruiting for various profiles for our Emergency Response Unit (ERU). These units are a key disaster response tool for the International Federation. ERU members are deployed at short notice within 48 hours to assist other National Societies in the field. These assignments are normally from four to six weeks but could last up to four months. Multiple languages such as Spanish, French, and Portuguese are an asset. For more information, please go to http://www.ifrc.org/what/disasters/responding/drs/tools/eru.asp
Our delegates are funded through the generous support of the Canadian public as well as the Canadian International Development Agency.
Interested applicants should complete an application and include an accompanying letter describing your personal motivation for working as an International Red Cross aid worker. If you are interested in working for the Canadian Red Cross in any of the profiles noted above, please submit a general application at https://Internationalcareers.redcross.ca
Should your profile match the professions for which we are recruiting, you will be contacted for an interview. Only those who successfully complete the interview process will be invited to attend a week-long delegate training course (International Mobilization Preparation ACTion) which is normally held twice a year. A limited number of candidates from across the country are chosen to participate in the course. The link to our main web page is http://www.redcross.ca/article.asp?id=5599&tid=001
Due to the unpredictable nature of relief work, course participants cannot be guaranteed an international posting, although every attempt will be made to secure positions. We are extremely proud of the calibre of personnel who work with us, and we consider their skills to be one of our most valuable contributions to the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement.
